Dow Jones Best-in-Class Indices
The Dow Jones Best-in-Class Indices, previously known as Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI), are float-adjusted market capitalization weighted indices that measure the performance of companies selected with ESG criteria using a best-in-class approach.
S&P Dow Jones Indices partners with S&P Global ESG specialists to provide investors with objective benchmarks for managing their sustainability investment portfolios. The solution allows the creation of portfolios of companies that fulfill certain sustainability criteria better than the majority of their peers within a given industry. To address specific investor requirements, the DJBCI index family includes sub-indices that exclude companies engaged in certain activities widely considered as unsustainable.
The benchmarks are comprised of three geographical breakdowns: Dow Jones Best-in-Class Indices World (including Dow Jones Best-in-Class Indices Emerging Markets), Dow Jones Best-in-Class Indices Regions, and Dow Jones Best-in-Class Indices Countries. Indices within these geographical divisions use different starting universes and different percentiles to mark the “cut off” point in selecting the most sustainable companies (see the index methodology for details).
